Adnexal tumors



WHAT ARE THE ADNEXA ?

The ADNEXA are the female reproductive organs which lie close to or surrounding to the uterus (womb) in woman.



They are the following

  • The ovaries
  • The fallopian tubes /oviducts
  • Para ovarian remnants


There a set of adnexal structures on each side i.e. right and left side of the woman’s body.

WHAT ARE ADNEXAL TUMORS?

Adnexal tumours are swellings which arise from any of the adnexal organs i.e. the ovaries or tubes etc.

They could arise on one side (unilateral) or even on both sides (bilateral).

Tumors are excessive and abnormal growing cells which appear as swellings or lumps. They could be cancerous or non-cancerous (benign).

Adnexal masses are adnexal swellings

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES FOF ADNEXAL MASSES ?

The cause will depend on the organ involved

Hence the causes are

  • Ovarian
  • Tubal
  • Others


The most common cause is ovarian
